Updated Guidelines

Since I did some major work on the guidelines last night, and since it's hard to keep track of the changes via the "history" function when there are re-arrangements, here's a breakdown of what I did (apart from the grammatical and stylistic editing).

• Flaming: Put in an external link for flaming. A lot of people do not know what this is, so we better explain if we want them to avoid it.
• Images: Added example for meaningful image names.
• No Developer Questions:Split part of these guidelines off into the Discussion Pages and Writing an Article sections. Removed the highlighting for the "developers", as that made it seem like it's ok to ask anybody else, as long as you don't ask the developers directly.
• Created a Discussion Pages section, which received part of the content of the original "Talk Pages" section.
• Created a section on Writing an Article.
• Created a section called Create/edit Sections which received part of the content from the old "Talk Pages" and the "Use the section edit button" section.
• Use Full Names for Titles: Added an example to this section.
• Created a section recommding to Use the Preview button.
• Removed the section about "Templates", as that is a more advances issue, more suited for sysops and the Templates page.

Code guidelines

Should guidelines for correctly posting code be added?

For the scripting command template I modified the CSS that way, that <code style="display: block"> and <pre> tags don't make any visual difference. The difference between the two is that the first one allows wiki formatting, but requires also manual linebreaks with <br>, while the second just lets you enter the code as you like, but doesn't allow links etc.

I think they are a very good and flexible way of posting code, since you know at the first instant that you are watching a piece of scripting code. I also think that this would be a candidate for a rule, so that people keep a certain standard. Thoughts? --hardrock 20:33, 3 August 2006 (CEST)

Well, I think this page is more for violations that would get you banned on the spot, or at least would get you into seriously hot water...;) I would rather prefer to make this shorter instead of longer, since people will be more likely to actually read it if it's a manageable length. The coding guidelines should probably be in our "to be developed" editing help page, where we should have examples of the most important formatting issues. --Kronzky 21:35, 3 August 2006 (CEST)

Articles in other languages are not currently accepted? Why?

...and why not currently? If we want to have nonEnglish articles in future, we must create an base article set (stubs) in these languages BEFORE ArmA goes on. If ArmA fans find nothing to edit (editing is much easier than writing from scratch) in their own languages, we newer get a nonenglish user base, beause they newer come back (or come back when there will be a nonenglish user base ;-) ). --Djura 13:50, 7 October 2006 (CEST)

Flaming Decent Questions

I want to finish a local copy of "Weapons" on hec.wtf as ArmA3 "Weapons" but can't figure an easy / effective way to include the very many JPGs of the individual weapons.
I know that transclusion of some form //might// do the trick, but I'm not sure what your rules are about using that technique.

I dropped into ArmA3 #Discord and got totally flamed. "Does anybody know about transclusion in wiki?" had 3 guys barking at me, one telling me I needed to "dial back the elitism".
I've been doing MilSim since 1972 (CFB Kingston) and have watched it online as a diagnostic of society in general. We're pretty well doomed. Asking a question simply got me flamed. "Why not just ask the question?" "Do you know about transclusion? or about wiki markup?" My reply was taken as though criminal. #Doomed

I am not sure what you mean by transclusion but since it's wiki related you probably asked in the wrong channel. Ask in #community_wiki, we are usually quite friendly and will answer you questions if we can ;) 01:22, 6 July 2018 (CEST)R3vo (talk)
