Arma: Cold War Assault Remastered
On 2026-07-16: 25 years after players first deployed to Everon, Bohemia Interactive is proud to announce the release of Arma: Cold War Assault Remastered.
The game that started it all returns on a modernised engine foundation. Developed in collaboration with members of our player community, this remastered edition preserves the original gameplay, missions, campaigns, and compatibility with community content, while bringing the classic experience to modern systems.
All owners of Arma: Cold War Assault on Steam can play the remastered version today.
Key Improvements
- Native 64-bit support for Windows and Linux
- New OpenGL 3.3 renderer tuned to preserve the original atmosphere
- Modern input handling with support for modern peripherals (controllers) and Steam Deck
- Support for modern resolutions and ultrawide aspect ratios
- Restored spatial audio support - OpenAL backend with integrated voice chat
- Improved stability and performance on current systems
- LAN multiplayer, dedicated server support, and Voice over Network
- New multiplayer back end (modern master server and in-game server browser)
- Experimental Join in Progress support for compatible missions
- In-game mod manager: enable, order and download community mods from within the game (https://papa-bear.cz/), no command line needed
- Open toolchain for creators: bundled tools for PBO archives, models, terrain, textures, sound and config, plus a standalone scripting evaluator and a Blender import addon
Open Source
Alongside the remaster, the engine source code is now publicly available on GitHub under BohemiaInteractive/cwr.
This public source release gives the community a new way to study, preserve, experiment with, and better understand the technology behind the original Arma experience. Technical documentation, licensing information, and issue reporting are available through the repository.
So whether you're revisiting old Everon after many years, deploying for the first time, or exploring the source code behind the original experience, now is the time to revisit the original Cold War sandbox.
Important Notes
Arma: Cold War Assault Remastered is installed alongside the classic version and does not replace it. The original Steam version remains available and unchanged, with its own files, profiles, savegames, configuration, and mod workflows.
Classic savegames are not compatible with the remastered version, as the remaster uses separate profile and configuration data. Multiplayer is also separate from the classic version. Remastered clients cannot connect to classic servers, and classic clients cannot connect to remastered servers.
